Bond Denied for Man Charged with Entering into Glendale Heights Home and Sexually Assaulting Seven-Year-Old Girl

Carlos Espinales-Guevara, 25 (d.o.b. 4/19/1998) of the 200 block of Gladstone Drive, Glendale Heights has been denied bond.

“OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR MOST VULNERABLE AND IT IS INCUMBENT UPON US TO PROTECT THEM FROM THOSE WHO WOULD DO THEM HARM,” BOB BERLIN STATED. “KEEPING SEXUAL PREDATORS BEHIND BARS ENSURES THAT THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO PREY UPON OUR INNOCENT, DEFENSELESS CHILDREN AND IF FOUND GUILTY OF THESE CRIMES, THAT IS EXACTLY WHERE MR. ESPINALES-GUEVARA WILL FIND HIMSELF FOR A VERY LONG TIME.”

GLENDALE HEIGHTS - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Glendale Heights Chief of Police George Pappas announced today that bond has been denied for a man accused of entering a Glendale Heights home and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl. Carlos Espinales-Guevara, 25 (d.o.b. 4/19/1998) of the 200 block of Gladstone Drive, appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Daniel Guerin granted the State’s Motion to deny bond. Espinales-Guevara is charged with one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault – Victim Under 13 and one count of Home Invasion – Sex Offense. Both charges are a Class X Felony.

It is alleged that on August 13, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., the victim was asleep in her bed when Espinales-Guevara entered the family’s home and then entered her bedroom. It is alleged that once in her bedroom, Espinales-Guevara got into the girl’s bed and sexually assaulted her. Family members became aware of the alleged intrusion, removed Espinales-Guevara from the house and called 9-1-1. It is further alleged that after he was removed from the house, Espinales-Guevara attempted to re-enter the house but failed to do so. Officers with the Glendale Heights Police Department responded to the call and found Espinales-Guevara a short time later near the home. He was taken into custody at this time.

“It is alleged that in the middle of the night, Mr. Espinales-Guevara entered an innocent family’s home and sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl who was asleep in her bed,” Berlin said. “These allegations are beyond disturbing and will be met with the full force and effect of the law. Our children are our most vulnerable and it is incumbent upon us to protect them from those who would do them harm. Keeping sexual predators behind bars ensures that they will be unable to prey upon our innocent, defenseless children and if found guilty of these crimes, that is exactly where Mr. Espinales-Guevara will find himself for a very long time. It is my sincerest hope that the victim and her family will receive the help they need to ease the pain and anxiety allegedly caused by Mr. Espinales-Guevara. I thank the Glendale Heights Police Department, particularly Detectives Wieland and Rosario, for their quick response and outstanding police work on this case. I also thank DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center Investigators Timothy Ogan and Elizabeth Aceves as well as Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Lindt for their work in securing charges against Mr. Espinales-Guevara and for their continued efforts in protecting those who cannot defend themselves.”

“It is our sincere hope that the victim, and family, will receive the proper resources and care they deserve as a result of this callous act” Pappas said. “I want to thank the officers and detectives from the Glendale Heights Police Department, along with the investigators from the DuPage County Children’s Center for their professionalism and determination in investigating this case involving this helpless victim. I also thank State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and Assistant State’s Attorney Jen Lindt for their ongoing commitment and dedication to public safety.”

Espinales-Guevara next court appearance is scheduled for August 31, 2023, for arraignment in front of Judge Guerin.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
