CAROL STREAM - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Carol Stream Chief of Police William Holmer announced today that bond has been set for two Chicago men accused of stealing merchandise by force from a Carol Stream T-Mobile store. Diamante Williams, 24 (d.o.b. 5/1/1997) of the 500 block of E. 38th Place and Jonathan Bullard, 28 (d.o.b. 2/28/1993) of the 6700 block of S. May Street, appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Daniel Guerin set bond at $350,000 with 10% to apply for Bullard and at $300,000 with 10% to apply for Williams. Bullard has been charged with one count of Robbery (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony). Williams has been charged with one count of Robbery, a Class 2 Felony.
On February 14, 2022, at approximately 4:11 p.m., officers with the Carol Stream Police Department responded to the Metro by T-Mobile store located at 724 W. Army Trail Road for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. It is alleged that three individuals wearing ski masks, two of which were later identified as Williams and Bullard, entered the store and that Williams began speaking with the clerk. It is alleged that when the clerk was checking on inventory behind the counter, Bullard walked behind the counter and pushed the clerk on his right shoulder up against a wall and held him there, telling the clerk “Give me everything.” It is further alleged that Williams and an unidentified accomplice then took merchandise and money from a cash register while Bullard led the clerk to another cash register and ordered the clerk to “open it right now.” It is alleged that after the clerk opened the cash register, Bullard and the unidentified accomplice took money from the register. It is further alleged that Bullard dragged the clerk into the rear employee area of the store by his sweatshirt and ordered the clerk to open a locked vault. The clerk was unable to open the vault. It is alleged that Bullard then punched the clerk on the left side of his face. It is alleged that the three individuals then fled the scene. Through the course of their investigation, authorities identified Williams and Bullard as suspects in the case. With assistance from the Chicago Police Department, both men were taken into custody later that day. It is alleged that the men stole three iPhones, approximately $250 in cash and the clerk’s car keys.
“It is alleged that these two men and an accomplice, traveled to DuPage County and violently robbed a business, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise and cash,” Berlin said. “Additionally, one of the men allegedly punched an innocent man, who was trying to make an honest living, in the face. In DuPage County, we will not stand idly by and allow violent crimes, such as alleged in this case, to happen. I thank the Carol Stream Police Department for their thorough investigation into this matter as well as the Illinois State Police and the Chicago and Summit Police Departments for their assistance. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Grace Barsanti and Bethany Jackson for their efforts in preparing a strong case against these two defendants.”
“The ability to solve this case quickly stems from the swift actions by the responding officers and detectives, and outstanding interagency cooperation,” Holmer said. “Thank you to the officers from the Summit and Chicago Police Departments, along with the Illinois State Police who were able to locate and arrest these men who terrorized an innocent victim simply going about his day.”
The next court appearance for Williams is scheduled for March 24, 2022. Bullard’s next court date is scheduled for March 23, 2022. Both defendants will appear before Judge Guerin.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendants’ guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
