Felon, Parolee Out on Bond Arrested with Loaded Firearm

Oak Brook - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today a two-time convicted felon who is currently out on bond out of DuPage County and on parole out of Cook County will be held on a $150,000 with 10% to apply bond after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. The State had asked for a bond of $500,000 with 10% to apply. Deontae McClain, 28 (d.o.b. 6/5/1992) of the 900 block of Sacramento Boulevard, Chicago, appeared in Bond Court this morning in front of Judge Jeffrey MacKay who set the bond. McClain briefly appeared at a bond hearing yesterday at which Judge MacKay granted his request to delay the hearing for a day to allow the defendant to obtain private counsel. He has been charged with one count of Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony), one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Felony) and several misdemeanor offenses.

At approximately 4:54 a.m., March 21, 2021, a trooper with the Illinois State Police pulled over a car, allegedly driven by McClain, for traveling 100 mph on I-88 near Oak Brook. During the stop, it is alleged that the trooper discovered that McClain was driving while his license was suspended. McClain was taken into custody at this time. It is alleged that the trooper searched McClain’s vehicle and found a loaded 9mm Barretta gun on the floor within arm’s reach of the defendant. The defendant was the sole occupant of the vehicle. It is further alleged that the gun had an extended magazine containing hollow-point bullets.

“For the second time in as many weeks, my office has filed Armed Habitual Criminal charges against an individual who is a two-time convicted felon currently out on bond accused of yet another felony,” Berlin said. “In this case it is alleged that Mr. McClain, who is not only out on bond but is also out on parole, completely ignored the conditions of bond placed upon him and in doing so thumbed his nose at the rule of law. I would like to thank the Illinois State Police for their outstanding work that led to today’s charges as well as the Addison Police Department for their assistance. I would also like to thank Assistant States Attorneys Lee Roupas and Anthony Pasquini for their efforts in preparing a strong case against Mr. McClain.”

McClain’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 20, 2021, in front of Judge MacKay for arraignment.
