WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick announced today that charges have been filed against a Chicago man for allegedly robbing an Addison gas station at gunpoint. Queshane Jefferson, 22 (d.o.b. 2/8/1998), with a last known address of 226 N. Pine, appeared in Bond Court this afternoon were Judge Paul Marchese set bond in the amount of $500,000 with 10% to apply, in accordance with a previously issued arrest warrant. Jefferson has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery, a Class X Felony.

On January 31, 2020, at approximately 5:15 a.m., DuPage County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Gas Depot gas station on Lake Street in Addison. It is alleged that two individuals, one of whom was later identified at Jefferson, arrived at the Gas Depot in a vehicle stolen in a vehicular hijacking out of Chicago just prior to their arrival. It is alleged that one of the men entered the business, approached the counter and asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. It is alleged that at this time, Jefferson entered the business, pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the clerk and forced the clerk to open the register. It is alleged that the two men then took all the cash from the register. It is further alleged that the defendants also took cartons of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. In all, it is alleged that the men took approximately $800 in cash and approximately $3,000 worth of cigarettes. An investigation conducted by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office led to Jefferson.

“It is alleged that Mr. Jefferson and his accomplice hijacked a vehicle at gunpoint in Chicago and traveled to Addison where they robbed a gas station and threatened a clerk at gunpoint who was just trying to make an honest living,” Berlin said. “This type of violent, criminal behavior will not be tolerated in DuPage County and if found guilty, Mr. Johnson will find himself behind bars for a significant amount of time. I would like to thank the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding work on this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Kristin Sullivan and Heather Misura for their work in preparing a strong case against the defendant."

“I’d like to thank Detective Dave Molzahn and our Detectives Division for the tenacity and attention to detail they showed during the better half of the last 10 months to bring Mr. Jefferson to justice,” said DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick. “His drive to solve this case shows we’re not letting up on crime in DuPage County. If you commit these crimes in DuPage County, we will work until we find you.”

Jefferson’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 28 2020, for arraignment in front of Judge Brian Telander.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
