Jury Convicts Man Who Abducted, Robbed and Raped College Student; Faces 135 Years In Prison

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced today that a jury has found Justin Dalcollo, 37 (d.o.b. 8/20/1984) with a last known address in Nicholasville, Kentucky, guilty of the abduction, sexual assault and armed robbery of a female college student in March, 2019. The jury returned their verdict after deliberating for approximately two hours following a five-day-long trial in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh. In all, the jury found Dalcollo guilty of six counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault (Class X Felony), one count of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Kidnapping (Class X Felony) and two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony).

Defendant Held on $5 Million Bond For Sexual Assault of 92-Year-Old Woman In Her Addison Home.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden announced today that bond has been set for a Glendale Heights man accused of breaking into an elderly woman’s home and sexually assaulting her. Willowbrook Armed Carjackers Arrested in Indiana; Will Be Extradited and Prosecuted

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Willowbrook Chief of Police Robert Schaller announced today that two men presently in custody in Indiana on unrelated charges, have been charged with carjacking an elderly couple’s 2021 BMW 840i at gunpoint from a Willowbrook gas station. Kevin Sanders, 22 (d.o.b. 4/9/1999) of the 300 block of Brown Street, West Lafayette and Antonio Davis, 20 (d.o.b. 7/30/2001) of the 8700 block of S. Burley Avenue, Chicago, have both been charged in the incident. Both men are facing charges of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking (Class X Felony), Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony) and Theft (Class 3 Felony). Sanders has also been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony) while Davis is facing additional charges of Armed Robbery with a Firearm (Class X Felony), Aggravated Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon (Class 1 Felony) and two counts of Robbery (Class 1 and Class 2 Felony).

The two remaining individuals, both juveniles, will appear at a detention hearing tomorrow morning. Berlin announced that on Friday afternoon, October 15, 2021, an unincorporated Glendale Heights man charged with attacking, beating and sexually assaulting a sixty-five-year-old woman as she arrived to work early in the morning was sentenced to thirty-three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Kenneth Hatlen, 55 (d.o.b. 9/27/1966) of Virginia Avenue, appeared in court Friday morning where he entered a plea of guilty to one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault (a Class X Felony) in front of Judge John Kinsella. Hatlen was also sentenced to three additional years to be served consecutively after entering a plea of guilty to one count of Aggravated Battery (Class 2 Felony) for spitting on a DuPage County Deputy Sheriff while in custody.

Defendant in West Chicago Kennel Fire Found Guilty

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today that Judge Robert Miller has found Garrett Mercado, 32 (d.o.b. 10/1/1989) of 2346 Cambridge Lane, Woodridge, guilty of three counts of Animal Cruelty, a Class A Misdemeanor and six counts of Violation of Owner’s Duties, a Class B Misdemeanor. Judge Miller issued his ruling following a five-day-long bench trial where Mercado faced more than two dozen charges as the result of a 2019 fire at an unincorporated West Chicago kennel he operated that claimed the lives of twenty-nine dogs. On July 10, 2019, Mercado, who operated the former D and D Kennel located at 2N441 North County Farm Road, was arrested on a $50,000 with 10% to apply arrest warrant. The following day he posted the necessary 10%, or $5,000, and was released from custody.
