Offenders in Wheaton, Lombard home invasions and shooting charged

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin, DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick, Chief of the Wheaton Police Department William Murphy and Chief of the Lombard Police Department Roy Newton announced today that charges have been filed against three individuals suspected of breaking into homes in Wheaton and Lombard and shooting a homeowner in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 23. Malik Pitts, 22 (d.o.b. 7/29/1998) of 2400 W Cermak, Broadview, Isaiah Johnson, 21 (d.o.b. 7/26/1999) of 12219 S Vincennes, Blue Island and Keytori Jackson, 22 (d.o.b. 6/3/1998) of 2400 W Cermak, Broadview, appeared in Bond Court this morning where Judge Timothy McJoynt denied bond for Pitts and Johnson and set bond at $500,000 with 10% to apply for Jackson.

Bond set at $500,000 for Carol Stream Man charged with Attempting to Kidnap Juvenile near park

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Carol Stream Chief of Police William Holmer announced today that a Carol Stream man is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly grabbing a thirteen-year-old girl around the waist and attempting to carry her away. Humberto Caldera, 31 (d.o.b. 4/21/1989) of the 400 Block of Silverleaf Boulevard, appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Jeffrey MacKay set bond at $500,000 with 10% to apply. Caldera has been charged with one count of Kidnapping (Class 2 Felony), one count of Aggravated Battery in a Public Place (Class 3 Felony) and one count of Unlawful Restraint (Class 4 Felony).

Judge rules juvenile charged with armed carjackings to be tried as adult

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today that Judge Brian Jacobs has granted the State’s motion to transfer a juvenile suspected in a string of armed carjackings in Downers Grove and Warrenville from Juvenile Court to adult Court. The juvenile, who is not being named at this time, has been held in custody in the Juvenile Detention Center since his detention hearing on December 19, 2019.

Elmhurst drive-by shooter arrested in Arizona; to be extradicted to DuPage County

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Elmhurst Chief of Police Michael Ruth announced today that a twenty-two-year-old man has been charged with Attempt First Degree Murder for allegedly shooting an Elmhurst man last May. Charged with one count of Attempt First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery – Discharge of a Firearm (both Class X Felonies) is Alec Gonzales, 22 (d.o.b. 10/27/1997) with residences at 679 S. Berkley Avenue, Elmhurst and 8534 E Grandview Street, Mesa, Arizona. Gonzales is currently in custody in the Maricopa County, Arizona, Jail. Extradition proceedings are pending and he is expected to return to DuPage County in the near future.

Justice for Andrea Urban; Killer Sentenced to Life in Prison

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today that Judge Brian Telander has sentenced Dominic Sanders, 33 (d.o.b. 2/2/1987) formerly of University Park, to natural life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2017 murder of Andrea Urban of Hinsdale. Additionally, Judge Telander sentenced Sanders to thirty years on Home Invasion Charges and Fifteen years on Residential Burglary Charges. All three sentences will be served consecutively.

Offender in armed Addison crime spree denied bond; committed Armed Robbery and Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden announced today that bond has been denied for one of two men accused of hijacking at gunpoint a Chevy Camaro from a man late Monday night and robbing an Addison gas station at gunpoint on March 29, 2020. James T. Kimbrough, 22 (d.o.b. 9/19/1997) of 714 E. 147th Street, Dolton, appeared in Bond Court this morning where Judge Jeffrey MacKay denied bond. The second defendant, Malik Pierre-Louis, 23 (d.o.b. 8/10/1996) of 991 East Lake Street, Addison, is scheduled to appear in Bond Court tomorrow morning. Both men have been charged with one count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm (Class X Felony) and one count of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony).

On February 27, 2020, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced that a jury has found Juan M. Granados, 42 (d.o.b. 01/03/1978) formerly of Glen Ellyn, guilty of killing his ex-wife, Nancy Bustos in the fall of 2011. In addition to the finding of guilty of First-Degree Murder, the jury also found Granados guilty of Criminal Sexual Assault.
